Sharper antialiasing for small logos?

Hello!

Does anybody know of any neat tricks in Photoshop for getting sharper antialiasing for small vector logos?

Example:

Download the Facebook logo in EPS format: http://vectorlogo.blogspot.com/2008/01/facebook-logo-eps.html

Resize it to the size of their standard page logo:

Compare it to Facebook’s version:

See how much sharper theirs is? How did they do that?

It would make sense if they had turned their modified version of Klavika into a real font and used Photoshop’s font renderer. But what about the rest of us who only have vectors to deal with? Is this level of clarity and sharpness really possible?

Many thanks!

Hey there! Seriously? damn maybe its something illustrator does then. i resized mine with flash. strange…

ill give it a shot and report back either way thanks again kohoutek

That’d be very interesting to see the results in Flash as that tool is quite good with vectors.

Looking forward to seeing your results!

I cheated! Well, in a way.

Photoshop is really rubbish when it comes to resizing. There’s always quality loss involved. At least that’s been my experience.

So, I’ve booted up Illustrator (I bet you can use any vector app) and reduced the size there. I don’t think you can get it as clean in PS, but I might be proved wrong!

Anyway, in case you’d like to try it out with a vector tool, here are the steps I took with Illustrator:

  1. Hit “S” or double-click the Scale Tool. A new preferences window will pop up
  2. Enter a number around 38% (and make sure to check “Uniform Scale”)

That’s it.

Wow… what did you do? Dare I say that looks almost better than Facebook’s version? You have magic fingers. Please teach a brother…

I’ve tried this now:
