Hello, I am new to SEO. When building a site and aiming at a target market, how low should the competition be? Is 100,000 too much competition?
Also do you guys know a good place to get SEO video tuts to learn more?
Hello faithfirst1001, I am also new here, and this is my understanding about SEO. I would love to hear from a more experienced webmaster, if my understanding falls short of accuracy.
I do my keyword search in Google keyword tools. Most of the time, I look for the local demand search criteria to be more than 4000. But I also select only the words in a low to medium competition area. I stay away from the high competition area because the ability for me to win that battle is null, to impossible.
Any search volume number over, say 10,000, you will most likely find it in the high competition area, which as I said earlier, I tend to stay away from because of the chances you will rank for that particular keyword is extremely low. With that said, if you look into the long-tail versions of that same keyword, you will more than likely find one that fits all of your needs - medium to high search volume, and low to medium competition. I hope this answers your question.

it depends on keyword you are choosing, if you are choosing keyword that has high competition,means that keyword or simply word has more serach. so for marketing purpose that keyword may be good.also keyword that has low competition but has more seraches may also be beneficial. take help of adwords keyword analyzer, you will definitely get benefited. you can video tuts of seo from youtube where you will finds lots of video tuts take help from them.
