sendmail_from on a shared host in .htaccess?

I need to send an email after a Submit.

The php mail() function is working on my box, bUT the return address from a test email is:

root@boxname.myhost.com

(the phpinfo() output shows "sendmail_from me@localhost.com as both the local and master values)

php.net’s config pages tell me i need to change the php.ini file (But I can’t do that on a shared box), so i’ve tried adding the following info to my /www/ .htaccess file:

php_value [mail function]
sendmail_from = update@my-domain.org
sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

(the path is as told by my host)

but I have an error!!! b/c then all of the pages under /www/ don’t load (Internal server Error junk)

what’s the proper syntax to set my local values to the “_from” value above in a .htaccess file??

please help…

php_value sendmail_from “update@my-domain.org
php_value sendmail_path "/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i "

Would be the correct syntax, but I don’t think those particular options can be controlled from a .htaccess file.

to anyone who comes across this…

the value:

php_value sendmail_from “update@my-domain.org

didn’t crash the site as before, but it also didn’t work.

just adding the value: “From: update@my-domain.org” into the mail() info on the .php page that requests the mail function worked.
