See weird markup code in firebug

what are these Javascript calls that I’m seeing now in the markup code in firebug (and Chrome’s equiv)??

screenshot:

this appears at the very bottom of markup code, just before closing body tag…
(does not show when you view src code, only in firebug…)

what on earth is this, please…

thank you…

A quick Google search suggests adware: https://malwaretips.com/blogs/asrv-a-akamaihd-net-virus/

Are you seeing any pop-up ads?

no… popups are blocked…

but this shows even when am viewing a page locally (in localhost), and am not even connected to the internet…

thank you…

Could be something in your browser (an extension?) injecting it into the page.

From here: https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-jollywallet-virus/

JollyWallet is an ad-supported (users may see additional banner, search, pop-up, pop-under, interstitial and in-text link advertisements) cross web browser plugin for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, and distributed through various monetization platforms during installation.
JollyWallet is typically added when you install another free software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this adware program.

Do you see anything like that in your browser extensions, or in programs/features (or whatever it’s called on a Mac)?

not really… and this is happening in both FF and Chrome… haven’t installed any extensions like what you mention, in either browser…

oh man… this is weird…

thank you…

As Pullo said it is adware (basically a virus) and you need to rid them from your system. You probably downloaded it with some other free software or it was hiding in some other package you downloaded.

Use Malwarebytes to remove it.

Jollywallet and Rvzr-a.akamaihd are both adware programs.

ok… I have a weird problem here…

on practically every site I visit I get pop-ups now (I don’t see the content, as I close them before the content appears… actually not a pop-up, a new tab…) it happens even on Sitepoint, when I start typing here on the forum… I close the tab, and it opens another one immediately afterwards…

so: I need instructions on how to get rid of this FOR THE MAC… instructions I see online are all for Windows… I looked in Apps folder… don’t see anything that looks remotely like it could be this thing…

(maybe should post on a mac OS forum? or can someone here help me?)

thank you…

Did you not clean your system and install virus software after the previous question because it certainly sounds like a virus of sorts?

Be very wary of free or very cheap software unless you know what you are doing. Stick to well known industry names or recommendations.

thank you Paul…

are you saying I need to purchase an anti-virus program? this is the only solution to this problem?
(no free sw/utility out there with which I can accomplish this?)

thank you…

Here is an excellent guide on how to remove malware from your computer.

Be prepared for several hours of work and be sure to read it carefully, but it’s worth it.

actually, I see that some of them are free…
thank you Paul…

(however: did you see comment here by EvilDave (the longest comment)?? it’s intriguing, to say the least… am really curious now… as to what the tools are that come with the mac for tackling this (he doesn’t mention them…;~)

thank you…

There may have been a misunderstanding here. By “worth it”, I was meaning that it’s worth your time. There’s no money involved.
