I am looking for a php script written to manage table of contents.
I should be able to modify the designs.

Looks a good plugin for wordpress.

But I am searching to find out one with simple thing, working with single table.
I wanted to generate a list like in safari books online,

Have you looked at Dagon Design Sitemap Generator? I think you could style it into a good looking TOC page.
