I don’t think it does any harm, it may hold some weight, nobody can really tell you for certain. Some will say google will ignore it as a factor in recent algorithm changes, some will say they don’t give it as much weight as they used to.
Personally I don’t think it can do you any harm and is plays a small part. Why wouldn’t it. If your domain name is e.g {kit-cars} and your site content is all about kit cars then google would IMO be foolish not to give some weight to it.
There is still a lot of weight by Google in the exact match domains. A lot of searches will reveal this, as there are exact match domains on the first page of Google results, almost always.
So what I am trying to say is that this is the most effective way to get good rankings, as it involves no effort.
However you can always compensate with exact match anchor backlinks the lack of kw in the domain name. But this option is very work intensive and takes time.
