I am noticing my website is ranking in Google.
However, it is on page 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and I need to be on page 1 or 2 to get more hits.
Will I get on to page 1 or 2 over time? The site is 6 months old. Or do I need to do more SEO to get a better positioning? I would expect to climb in rankings as the site gets older - is this true?

Not necessarily. While it’s true that Google may give some weight to long-established sites as credible, age in itself won’t help a site to rank.
Google returns top results for those pages it determines most closely match the search terms. So the most important factor is, of course, your content. If other sites have better or more relevant content, they will rank above yours, irrespective of age.

sites move up the ranking when they get more “authority”, not just age. to obtain that you have to update the site on a regular basis with quality content that matches your niche.
