Remove mysql, apply mysqlnd linux centOS7 problems (SSH)

We have updated our database from mariadb5.5 to mariadb10. From doing this we get the following error:

Warning: mysqli_connect(): Headers and client library version mismatch. Headers:50537 Library 100017.

I’ve read to rectify this, mysql should be removed and mysqlnd installed. After doing this, everything that was on the database is lost.

So my questions is, how can I remove mysql, install mysqlnd and have all previous database info retained. Last time we lost plesk and basically the entire web!
