I love the look of our site but understand that others may not… I find it difficult to see what improvements could be made via WordPress themes or simply with the layout, for example, how to attract more readers while still keeping regulars. Would anyone with WordPress experience please be kind enough to have a look and make any suggestions? Do you think it’s easy to read, easy to find things? Does it look professional?

I looked at your site on mobile. When the page loads, you are immediately slammed with ads. It’s very busy without clear undertanding of what your site is even about and the header isn’t very definitive. Maybe more delineation between each article too. Hope that helps.
The “We have posted …” looks like it is intended for search engines not human visitors.
I can’t speak for others, but I certainly don’t have the patience to even bother trying to read that mess. Maybe if it was a list with separate lines I might, but not like this

I think the information could be better organised. For example, your “City Guides” page just has a long list of links which appear to be in no particular order. (Perhaps they’re ordered by date posted; I don’t know.) That section would be more useful (IMHO) if the information was arranged more logically, so that relevant information could be found more easily. Ordering the links alphabetically by city, or splitting them into groups for continents and then alphabetically by city, would make things easier for the visitor.
