When I submit to the directories there is a reciprocal url field. I was told it was spam so never use reciprocal url. Is it really spam? Or is it one way of link building?
Those same guidelines also go on to list
Excessive link exchanges (“Link to me and I’ll link to you”) or partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking
and
Low-quality directory or bookmark site links
as particular problems.
Link-building as an SEO technique has had its day. The important links are those you earn, where another site chooses to link to yours because of the quality of your content.
