Question: Changing 301 redirects

Hi I have this issue:

When a website was redreveloped a few months ago a lot of 301 redirects that were put in place do not redirect to the right page (many to the home page instead of a relevant page). Because of these are permanent can these be changed and the search engines see this and pass the value to the new page?

If there are still inbound links from other sites that are pointing to your old URLs then yes, it is worth correcting the 301s so that they redirect people to the right pages. Not only will that help the search spiders, but it will also help people who find your site by one of those links. It won’t be an overnight fix, but it will help in the long run.
