I am planning on starting a blog on News and other articles.
Is it ok if I publish the news taken from other news sites?

No, it’s ok if you rewrite it in your own words though.
Google will give you a penalty if you do duplicate content.
I agree with you but I think that news are always same but content (mean to say words) is different. It is according to the writers own style. You can provide same news in your own words. and try to perform better bcoz for google content is king.

Using someone else’s content can often be a copyright violation and may well earn you a nasty letter from their lawyers.
I don’t know why most people have such a hard time understanding that taking stuff that doesn’t belong to you and passing it on is wrong

Just go to news.yahoo.com or news.google.com some day then get back with me if you think that Google and Yahoo create all of that content, I have a bridge to sell you.
Hosted news is licensed from agencies like the AFP and Reuters.
And linking to news is one thing; ripping off the content wholesale is quite different.
It’s better that you should not publish the same news or article in the blog.
Read that news or article and write it in your own words.
Otherwise may be google can trace the duplicay.
