I see my competitor websites using title tags that are all keywords.
like keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword | Brand Name
No stop words, just keywords.
So I though Google thought of this as over optimizing?
But I want to be able to compete for keywords and phrases, but do not want to break any rules.
My main issue is that I am a small business. So on my homepage, what is teh best practice for title tags? Do you say what you do in keyword only phrases? Or basically go after the company name and that’s it?
You might consider removing the company name altogether. Unless that’s what people are searching for, it might just be getting in the way. Make your title a clear description of what the page is all about. If that’s essentially keywords, that should be OK, I’d think—but it’s nicer to have a meaningful title. Remember that it’s one thing to get Google to feature the page, but another to get people to click on it. Searchers may be less inclined to click on a link of keywords. I always give preference to a clearly worded title that describes what I’m looking for.
for example my site uses: “service, service, service, and service in location: name of company”
This makes sense form a human point of view ( as ‘providing’ can be implied by the visitor) Putting the services first is important because google ranks the title from front to back. so the first word will have more weight than the next and so forth.
