Professional or Personal Grudge?

I been working in a office for a year now and i have this colleague. he has senior word attached to his designation. not my senior. he is software engineer and i m web developer, but i have notice he is always trying to make himself good in boss eyes. doing everything, even sometimes my designing (which he knows jack ****) and he is trying to do everything despite he even doesn’t know, he wanna do it and sometimes it make me insecure, that he is trying to proof a point to boss that i do everything while his skills are limited or he doesn’t have sense or comprehend. and in the end he is too clever to put what he made on me when the issue of compatibility arises. take one example, whenever he is working on oracle, he is like too much self control like no one should see it or if i ask. he just say “i will help u” and he never do. and when he needs help. he is like a leech, like tell me this or do this before anything. how should i proceed with someone like that, cunning but stupid. he underestimate my work. sometimes i feel like i should study his field so deep that i start coding in php and oracle. to make him insecure
and he have this friend another colleage of mine from his previous office. who knows jack **** about coding html and make my work hard and harder. sometimes to prove me wrong. he tags with him (but i can handle him and i scolded him once bad over ruining my html)

I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to start something confrontational - if your boss is approachable I would definitely voice my concerns. It’s always difficult dealing with someone or people who are insecure especially when it comes to their own skillset. I would keep to myself, get the work done and look after your own jobs. Study up if you wish but do it for the right reasons not to get back at someone!

Everything outside of that is irrelevant unless its encroaching on the ability to do your own work. If it is then go to your boss because they have a responsibility to you when it comes to a safe working environment - if it’s a tag team issue then that’s harassment or bullying and that shouldn’t be tolerated at any level. Make sure your boss knows it’s your work and credit is awarded to the proper person - I would drop comments like “what did you think of my project” or something along the lines that will direct his attention to “your work” etc…

I had a similiar experience where someone wasn’t up to scratch when they should’ve been and kept coming to me for help, of course I did help but soon realised that I was shooting myself in the foot - so my advice is to be nice and accommodating but know who your helping too, some people will take everything out of you and give nothing back not even a thank you and before you know it, you’ve helped them get the job you were wanting! Just keep a level head and don’t let it affect you, it’s not worth it.

I work on a web app. which has been in developement for last 7 months. i have to admit, i let my colleague go loose. and now i am regreting it coz he has turned so professional bullying. he is a software engineer and i am web developer. he don’t know jack about anything and yet he try to be the hero. my boss is more likely to favour him as i have noticed. the email i sent to boss are verbal told by him. so its like boss discuss much to him. beside this fact whenever he needs help and i help him out and in middle if he find out what’s what. he is like “i got it” instead of thank you. he is like i should have done this before etc etc. wht my major concern is. he takes whole time in development and we have a local pc and not a network to work on simultaneously. and i have nick of time to fix everything before it goes live and all the blame comes on me for not doing it fast.for which i am not truly responsible. coz i was given it late. how do i nail down a person like that. who is clever and cunning. professionally and personally, coz talking isn’t gonna solve anything

Emaarkhan, I have merged both of these threads together as it is stemmed from your original question.

Perhaps you need a new employer!? :shifty:

Changing to a new job isn’t a option, i need to teach the guy a lesson. here what is the problem
There is a colleague of mine, who has someone risen superior after his ex colleague joined our team. its been months since it happened but prior to his ex colleague joining, he was silent and ok. but now he defies my work, my logics, my methology and try to prove himself right. even though if he doesn’t know anything about it. just wanna show he is superior. i can’t talk to him on his ace telling him to back off coz he is dumb enough to even know what i said. he is like a person who think if is the right man. and all are wrong. how do i make someone back off. make him see that he can’t bypass this line and that he don’t hold the right to comment on my work. i really need him to back off but i need advice, ways on how to do it?
