Problem with login

I have set up a mysql/php/apache webserver and have a problem when I try to log in to the mysql database using php. I am following the description in Kevin Yanks book “Build Your Own Database Driven Web Site Using PHP & MySQL”, page 117 ff. I get this error:

Fatal error : Call to undefined function mysql_connect()

If i try to log in using the command prompt, everythings work just fine. My php scripts works too, except for Kevins php loginscript.

It appears that you are using PHP5?

If so mysql isnt on by default I believe.

You may want to look in your php.ini and make sure that the extension is active.

;extension=php_mysql.dll
^remove the semi-colon.

I did a manual installation as it is described in the book. Latest version of php, apache and mysql.

I did uncomment first extension=php_mysqli.dll because that is what Yank say you should do.
I then did uncomment extension=php_mysql.dll.
I even tried to uncomment both and I restarted apache after every change, but the error message is still there.

I did find this in httpd.conf:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘C:\\php\\ext\\php_mysqli.dll’

Now, I am totally lost.

The instructions for Installing PHP have changed.

See the Errata for the book at http://www.sitepoint.com/books/phpmysql4/errata.php

Thanks for reminding me of that page. It works now!
