Print mavens, a suggestion please?

Complete 911 Timeline

A friend of mine wants to print (yes, really) everything in this section of the larger site. This section is composed of something like 68 pages. The “Printer-Friendly View” gives the user a nicely formatted print-ready page, for one page at a time. Is there a better way than to have the guy click through 68 times and print one at the time?

Side note: the design is awful and the CMS structure is built on obsolete technology. I know, I didn’t do it.

Email the site author and ask for the page in a printable format?

There are only two valid reasons for offering ‘print friendly’ options. One is to combine a multi-page article into a single printable file. The other is to offer a bespoke designed printable view (almost certainly in PDF format) that can’t be generated automatically.

Any site that simply runs the page through a server-side transformation could achieve the same effect far more efficiently and usefully by just creating a print.css to give the same output, without beggaring the whole thing up in terms of usability, accessibility and findability.

You’re right, but I know the site owner, and he isn’t going to do any of this. I’ve found a couple of software programs that will sorta kinda do what I need done. Thanks, Stevie.
