Preview in browser - Can code errors get by?

If I preview something in the browser using DW, is it possible that errors in code could slip by?

The reason I ask is that I updated my site recently and I added an image and a thumbnail. I previewed it in Opera and everything looked perfect. Yet when I uploaded it and checked online, the image wouldn’t display.

It’s driving me nuts because I can’t find anything wrong with the code or the image file.

Any ideas on where the disconnect could be?

Thanks for your help

I don’t use DW anymore, but when I did (several iterations ago and a job requirement), I learned very quickly not to trust the browser display.

In general, sometimes problems like you state can be browser-specific, but if you don’t have an image displaying, 99 times out of 100 that’s caused by a faulty path. Make sure your image is where it’s supposed to be, named what it’s supposed to be, and your code properly reflects the path. If you aren’t sure, post it in here and we’ll see if we can help you untangle it. :slight_smile:

Yes, I agree that it must be the path but I’ve looked it over so many times. I’ve checked the file names, their locations and it all adds up.

Here is the code, maybe I’ve overlooked something.

<div class="thumb">
<a rel="lytebox[gallery]" title="Chloë" href="images/gallery/chloe7.jpg">
<img src="images/gallery_thumbs/chloe7-thumb.jpg" width="64" height="64" border="0" />

</a>
</div>

<div class="thumb">
<a rel="lytebox[gallery]" title="Chloë" href="images/gallery/chloe8.jpg">
<img src="images/gallery_thumbs/chloe8-thumb.jpg" width="64" height="64" border="0" />
</a>
</div>

<div class="thumb">
<a rel="lytebox[gallery]" title="Chloë" href="images/gallery/chloe2a-copy.jpg">
<img src="images/gallery_thumbs/chloe2a_thumb.jpg" width="64" height="64" border="0" />
</a>
</div>

take a look and let me know. Thanks.:slight_smile:

Could DW ftp be the problem? I am absolutely certain the image files are in the right place yet I keep receiving this message. (see attachment)

Hmmm. Here’s something very simple to try: instead of

<img src="images/gallery_thumbs/chloe8-thumb.jpg" ...

try

<img src="/images/gallery_thumbs/chloe8-thumb.jpg" ...

can you visit the image directly in your browser (real internet browser)?

http://www.your-site.com/images/gallery_thumbs/chloe8-thumb.jpg

Sounds like your image is not uploaded, or that the path is incorrect. If the modified link above doesn’t work, try this.

http://www.your-site.com/images/gallery_thumbs/

Depending on your server settings you should be able to navigate to the dir and view the files inside of it. There you can verify if your image exists or not.

Sorry for this very late reply!

The last 2 images are not being transferred to the server. I can see this but there is no good reason for it, which is why I ask if it’s DW bug.

I know there’s a bug with the “put” function where sometimes I have to go through the file menu to upload to the server because it’s impossible to do it from the taskbar. (and vice versa, sometimes I have upload from the toolbar because the file transfer won’t work from the menu).

Black Max, I tried your code too and - nothing. The thumbnails are there but no image.

What am I missing?
