What is the best way of releasing a press release? Does there need to be some software such as Wordpress involved (not wordpress specifically)? Or do I just give a link on the first page? or how?
You use a PR distribution service that sends the release to the media. Like PRWeb’s Media Visibility service, which gets you onto the Associated Press. Publishing it on your site isn’t making a press release, it’s just making a webpage.

Beware though, the free distribution sites will have a much more limited scope and won’t include national newspapers or the AP. You’ll need to pay for that as Dan mentions.
