Press release submission

Hi,

Can anyone give me some good advice on the most productive and cost effective way to submit press releases? Are there any tactics I should be taking into account particularly? Do people believe that press releases are worth the time and money?

any advice would be very welcome

Thanks

As an ex-journalist, I will try to answer that part of your question.

A press release is worth the time and money if: (i) it is sent to specific journalists or editors who you know are interested in the subject and likely to want to write about it; and (ii) if the press release is expertly written.

Sending out blanket press releases in bulk is a waste of time and money. Even worse is posting your press release on a website in the hope that
journalists will visit the site and download them. All editors and journalists receive hundreds of releases each week, and have absolutely no incentive to go out looking for me.

If the press release is badly written, it will be discarded straight away. When the journalist picks it up, he or she is going to give you about two seconds to get your point across and to raise sufficient interest to go on reading. Any press release that fails to do that is not worth bothering with.

I hope this helps.

Personally i never use press release to get backlinks as well as for the promotion of website however, i heard about its effectiveness a lot. Mikl has discussed very comprehensive and important information regarding press release. After read this thread i am feeling that i was wasting my time, i should use this method to promote my business and website as well.

Generally press release is submitted when any new product or service get launched. Try to highlight the features of the product or service and of course press release is a powerful tool to get backlinks and people get benefited by submitting press release.

Press release is the content rich directed towards the latest information about service or product that is mostly used. The upgraded features new enhancements could be such example of it.

What do backlinks have to do with a press release? I’m sure you can get a few as a byproduct but that’s not the point.

Press release submission will help only at the time of new product or new offers or new deals launched. I spent a huge amount in press release for my website launch, but i get very limited sucess against money i spend. Better promotion tool is directory and article submission.

Based on what expected result?

The whole point of a press release is that it has to be newsworthy. Launching a website is not newsworthy - unless it’s a one-in-a-million killer site.
