I have a company that wants to meet me this week to possibly hire me to do graphics. This would include web work and print work. I have a lot more web work in my portfolio then I do print work.
What is the best way to present print work. I have some huge posters I did. I can present that. How about 8.11 prints off an Epson printer? Does that look professional enough?
I would prefer to project everything on a large screen, and then have real (printed) examples of everything just in case they want to see something in more detail. To me it just seems like a more organized way to present a lot of work.
With print portfolios, putting together a nice glossy scrapbook style portfolio that people can flick through would give the work a bit more texture. It really depends on the employer as to whether they would prefer something printed or something virtualized and it may also depend on what kind of role you’re going to undertake. Whatever you do, just ensure you take the time to put things across as well as possible, having a bunch of printed paper based items probably won’t give off the best impression if their looking for someone who can portray themselves creatively. Just my two cents of course!
Depends on where you are interviewing, whats the job about? If it is a seasoned print house then looking at final outputs is what matters. You can tell them you know your colours and can replicate screen to paper but seeing is believing. If it s a company that is mostly web based and dabbles with print - basically they use online sites like Vista print for their print jobs, then pictures of the final job will work. Having said that, it is print, you won’t print out a website portfolio, so why digitise a print portfolio - in an interview setting at least.
A good way to present big pieces of print work is to photograph them and show them on screen. For other smaller pieces having samples is the best!
