Preparing graphics for high resolution devices

These are exactly the things that svg does well.[quote=“Lemon_Juice, post:18, topic:258581”]
So far I’ve tried a few online png to svg converters and most of them output very lousy quality svg files

I’m aware of these, but have not given them a serious test. I can’t imagine them creating an efficient set of intelligently placed vertices like you can get creating them by hand. They may work as a quick fix if you don’t have the time or ability to make your own.

I find that hard to imagine, but I guess they are maintaining the image integrity by creating a lot of vertices along a path, the opposite of “an efficient set of intelligently placed vertices” a human would make.
So yes, getting efficient good quality SVGs could be work. Though you may be able to find some pre-made graphics on-line if you don’t need something bespoke.

I didn’t know what you mean but now I see those cached images have smaller file size. I didn’t even try to optimize the image because my intention was only to show how different browsers scale differently so the file size was irrelevant in this case. But yes, that png has a lot of potential for optimization!

Yep, that’s also what I think is happening. Maybe there are some better paid converters but I haven’t tried them.

I have been busy - better late than never to reply to your post:)

The link you posted was in his /tips-updates/ folder so it looks as though he decided to remove the original link.

Sorry about the link having already been posted. I did not realize it was the same because the link I tried was and is still forbidden with a 403.
