Guess I look stupid then because I have absolutely NO desire to do this…I see whole gangs of kids wandering around parks and streets with their phones looking for them. One person on my son’s lacrosse team said she knew someone who worked nights who kept getting woken up by people knocking on her door asking to come in and find the pokemon in or behind her house. She ended up posting a sign saying “I work nights at a hospital. Keep ringing my door bell during the day and I’ll make sure I see you there!”
Yes, that’s what I am talking about in my edit above. People do things that are illegal and stupid and then blame it on the trend. That’s kind of why I dislike Pokemon Go since if it wasn’t as hyped as it is, it would actually be fun to play.
I honestly like the actual Pokemon games on the Nintendo console more because you don’t get into trouble by trespassing private property. It’s also really competitive and there’s actual tournaments that are hosted around the world (I think mainly in the US), and people from around the world come to compete. You win actual prizes like I think real money and you also get your mascot Pokemon as an official Game Freak event. Along with the division’s title and I think a few more stuff.
No. And I have no intention to download it. I’ve seen lots of people playing with it.
Some of them were playing another game too, created by the same company.
The idea is good and I like it. It does make you walk and get out to the street. But it is not for me. I always hated Pokemon anyway
Thank you for being honest and not a bandwagon-er.
The success of Pokemon Go is phenomenal that people are willing to do crazy things just to catch these coveted pocket monsters… I for myself have been briefly addicted to this app, but I decided to give it up since I’ve heard a lot of bad stories about people’s experience while playing this app. One consolation though is I was able to use this idea as a way of promoting my affiliate products online through social media…
Tried it…hated it I never liked Pokemon when i was a kid, but I wanted to give this a go. I just thought it was too easy…i mean, where’s the challenge? Walk around, find Pokemon, walk around, find Pokemon. Wow. I don’t like the fighting system either, just a lot of button mashing without any skill.
Personally, this game is below-par but let me explain why. Let say this game does not uses augment reality with GPS. Imagine all you do is walking around your character, just throwing that ball, tapping like maniac during the battle mindelessly. The game mechanic sux. What makes this game good is the ‘experience’. It’s a game where it gets people to get together and have a good time. Even though this game is below-par, it gets AAA+ in the accomplishment for successfully creating a new genre of gaming. I have a feeling by next few years, we’ll actually get a game w/ good mechanics That’s when I’ll jump in…I’ll await until then…
I’ve pretty much trailed off at level 18 because of this reason. The mechanics just aren’t there to keep me interested. Taking over gyms is a joke. I could go around and take over pretty much any gym I wanted, not because I was good, but because it was broken. Reinforcing a gym was extremely hard and you can basically destroy hours worth of work in a few minutes by yourself.
Not to mention, the actual combat was fairly boring.
I haven’t uninstalled it, I’ve just had too much going on to really care about it.
Frankly speaking, I haven’t played it, because I don’t have a free time. But my friends collect pokemons successfully.
Italian bishop says ‘diabolical’ Pokemon is like ‘Nazism’
I tried it. At first, it was a marvel. But, I lost interest quickly. Actually, I was too busy with other things.
I like pokemon games, but I don’t have time for it. Most of the time I play mini games based on this anime. For example, such games as Pokemon Catch Journey. It’s easy and I don’t need to install it to play.
How can folks say they like Pokémon but (give reason for why they don’t play or quit playing)… seems odd? This is the game to play if you like Pokémon. Sure there are bugs, but they’ll patch those.
I understand, however perhaps you just live in an area that doesn’t have many unique creatures or pokestops?
Whenever my interest starts to wane, all it takes is one rare pokemon to rekindle my interest!! lol
Anyone here play this game? I’ve heard that Niantic stopped any cheating accounts from logging in. This is so cruel. I guess many players would leave the game.
whats a reason behind not available in us nd Dubai and other countries
Hahaha, RIP Pokemon Go 2016-2016
And there will be. It’s called Pokemon Sun & Pokemon Moon
. The next Pokemon generation for the Nintendo Console. Has new features that weren’t present back in generation 6. Now you have a menu that keeps track of status changes and many more. New abilities. And best of all, new Pokemon and places to explore. I high recommend it over Pokemon Go any day. This is were the real competitive scene begins. You can battle people online via Wifi or even your friends online or via inferred technology when you have someone near by. Events where you can attend and obtain exclusive Pokemons that most trainers can’t get unless they went there in person.
The only reason why Pokemon Go is so popular is because it came out on a device that a vast majority of users already currently have. If they were required to buy a new device (Nintendo 3DS), they would most likely not play it. I know a really large amount of people who would rather play something free on something they own instead of going out and buying something that is $200 which they’ll eventually end up not even playing after being bored. So the fact of the matter is, Pokemon Go is only popular because it came out on a device that nearly 80% or even more of the world’s population owns. If you compare that to the amount of people in the world owning a Nintendo 3DS, that is far less than even 20% of the world’s population. And again, you can’t beat something that is free.
Imagine if Pokemon Go actually being Membership only when it first came out. Would you still want to play then? The numbers of the current user base would decline rapidly if that was the case.
I would go further into detail why Pokemon Go is popular and different from the game series, but my 3DS broke so I’ll have to get a new one. I will be explaining that every single mechanism that Pokemon Go has, it has already been done before on the Nintendo 3DS. Except for the GPS part since Nintendo 3DS doesn’t use GPS.
So I made this pie chart to illustrate how I view Pokemon Go and its user base. So we are talking about a whole pie chart which begins at 100%.
Now about 20% of that pie chart illustrates for the people around the world who either does not have a smart phone (or any phone in that matter that can download Apps like Pokemon Go) or the region where they live is not supported as in most cases in any Pokemon related events in the game series. Much of it is not different. Most good events are region specific so some are nearly impossible to get unless you reside in said event region or in Japan or obtain it via online.
About 80% of the pie chart is occupied with millions of users around the world. Dividing that 80% into 3 parts, let’s start with smallest to biggest and explain what we see happening in there.
- So about 1 - 2 % of the Pokemon Go user base will find that they like the Pokemon Franchise and they would also like to try out the game series. This part isn’t on the pie chart because it could not fit, but about 2/3rds of that 1 - 2 % end up leaving because they don’t actually like Pokemon and how there is a vast selection of Pokemons to use and play with and it gets too confusing to them. This means generation 1 - generation 7.
Moving on.
-
About 3 - 4 % of the Pokemon Go user base are already aware and have knowledge of Pokemon and what is expected from it. About 2 % of that 3 - 4 % are people who are still playing the game series up until currently and will still continue playing.
-
About 74 - 76 % of the Pokemon Go user base only play Pokemon Go and have no knowledge whatsoever about the actual mechanisms surrounding Pokemon. This population of the Pokemon Go user base will most likely NEVER play any of the Pokemon game series and will NEVER try and attempt to play any of it. This is the population where they are only trend chasers so if the actual Pokemon game series is not popular to them, they won’t play it regardless if those game series was actually where Pokemon Go was given birth from.
So you can like me or you can hate me. I don’t really care. These are the statistics how I see Pokemon go from 2015 - 2017. Look, as much as I love writing PHP
snippets for people, Pokemon is also my passion. If I am not programming, I am playing ORAS
or genning a Pokemon for someone on a Pokemon forum I frequent. I frequent sites like gamefaq.com
I have genned many many Pokemons for people in need of them and for those who can’t just seem to get to an event that costs hundreds of dollars just to go to. Heck, I’m even part of a support recovering team where I help recover stolen or scammed Pokemon. I love Pokemon with a passion like I said and for people to just out of no where like Pokemon only because of Pokemon Go. It kind of insults me.
When I ask people, “Do you play Pokemon?” And they say “Yes, I play Pokemon.” And I say “Let me guess, Pokemon Go?” And they say “Yes, Pokemon Go.” And I’ll ask them “Have you played any other Pokemon Games?” And they’ll reply with “No, I don’t really like those games.”
I have gotten this numerous times where back in my high school, I would play Pokemon after school with a friend of mine. We would be trading Pokemon from older gens to newer gens or even trying every single glitch possible. And people would ask me “You still play Pokemon?” Like they have that look that says “You’re so childish”. And now when Pokemon Go came out. All of a sudden, those same people are now all saying “OMG!! POKEMON IS SO AWESOME!!!” Like I mean it’s great having new comers to something they have never experienced before, but it’s kind of like letting that bully get away with it after 10 years of bullying you.
Thing is, I am actually more of a Pokemon nerd than a PHP
nerd. I have been with the Pokemon Franchise from the very beginning when I got my first Blue cartridge for my Game Boy Color. Ask me anything relating to the Pokemon game series and I can tell you where it exactly is. Ask me about Gen 3 and where to find White Flute, I can tell you and pin point exactly where it is. Ask me where to find Ditto in Gen 5, I can tell you that it’s in the Giant Chasm. I mean I’ve lived with Pokemon my whole life. I am not here just for the trend and it’s actually one of the reasons why I dislike Pokemon Go. Yes, Pokemon Go does bring something new to the plate. However, it isn’t entirely new. It re-uses old mechanisms that all of the game series already uses. It’s just that it’s free and easy to get and is basically on the trend list.
There are many more reasons why I dislike Pokemon Go and I would actually rather prefer the game series over something like this. Many disagree, but let’s take into account all the re-used mechanisms. The only reason why Pokemon Go is so popular is because it’s free as I have said in an earlier post. If it wasn’t free, people most likely would never pay for it. And adding a bonus that it’s pretty much easy to install and play on any smart phones. I mean, you can’t beat free.
I remember a while back, I had a friend who only played Pokemon once and that was during Gen 1 and then he quit when he saw more Pokemon was being added into the franchise. Around 2010 when I met up with him again, I asked him if he wanted to play some Pokemon and that you can actually play ROMs on the PC since it’s free, but illegal. I only play it solely for the purpose of completing the game when I was on a tight budget. Now that you can’t play .3dz files on emulators, I was forced to get a 3DS. But anyways, he said no. Since he’s never home and is never on the computer. I told him that you can play it on your phone and he said no. I bet you, right now. He is playing Pokemon Go and saying that it is really cool.
The fact of the matter is, Pokemon Go is only Gen 1. Wait until they start adding other gens into the game. More people will leave just like this friend when he stopped playing Pokemon because too much Pokemon was being added into it. That is pretty much a large majority of the people who only wants to see what Pokemon is all about. So I’m going to say that about 30% of that 74 - 76% of users will leave.
A few of the members from the support team I am in also agrees with me. They also play the Pokemon game series and one of the new comers to the support team said this in a PM which lead us to explaining the outcome of Pokemon Go.
(New Comer)
I really hope they add other gen Pokes too. I’m a bit worried, I think lots of people are playing this just because it is a fad atm, I’m worried that people are gonna abandon this game. I hope not
I mean, you see all these people who have previously never been into Pokemon, and are just, y’know, suddenly into it

Well, I’m sorry to say it but that’s exactly what will happen, Pokémon is really popular and I love that franchise but we have to admit that if everyone is playing is because it’s the novelty of the week, give it a couple of weeks and people will stop playing, that doesn’t mean that everyone will though, people that like Pokémon will most likely play and some people will get into Pokémon, but all those who just played because it’s a new thing will stop, and those are quite a number.
(Me)
Kinda knew that already. That’s why I said “hype”. Most people only play or do things that are “trendy”. When the trend dies, so does the user base. Well, the user base of the trend at least. Some people will stay and continue it, but a large majority of them will move onto the next thing that is “trendy”. That’s why I get really furious when it comes to topics like these. Since I have been a fan of the franchise since 1999, I’ve stuck to it whether they go through a steep hill or the edge of a cliff. I will always follow them. But what really gets on my nerves is the last few years, I’ve been posting Pokemon related stuff such as the question I asked before and stuff about X & Y and ORAS and the only person who answered was my friend who actually plays Pokemon. No one answered my questions or replied to my post, but when Pokemon Go came out, all of a sudden people are fans of Pokemon. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good thing people are trying to get into Pokemon. But what gets on my nerves is when the are like “I like Pokemon, I play Pokemon.” And then you look at their posts and all they play is Pokemon Go. How can you like a franchise if you haven’t even played the original games or the actual games on the Nintendo consoles? You have to at least play a Pokemon game other than R/B/Y to like the franchise because people stopped playing Pokemon after R/B/Y because they couldn’t keep up with how rapid they kept adding new Pokemons. I mean you could play something like Pokemon Rumble World and be a fan of Pokemon since it’s part of the Nintendo console. Or even Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Oh boy, don’t even get me started because my thoughts are the exact same of yours, I’m happy that people is starting to like Pokémon again and that it’s becoming so popular again but I really hate those people that go “I love Pokémon, I play Pokémon, notice me”, no, you’re not playing Pokémon, you’re just using a walking app with a Pokémon theme, tell me, what are the main legendaries of all the gens? Tell me which Pokés you like from each gen? What’s that? That this is the first Pokémon “game” you play because the only thing you have Pokémon related is 2 stickers and a toy from McDonnals that you got when you were young? Then don’t come to me all like “I’m a huge fan” when you’re just playing because it’s the new thing in town, I lived with Pokémon all my life, I played when there where no abilities, I even played competitive when the weather was permanent, WHEN THE bleepING WEATHER WAS PERMANENT AND EXCADRILL COULD LITERALLY SWEEP YOUR TEAM AFTER A TURN OF SET UP!
Don’t take it wrong, as you I love the increase of popularity of Pokémon and I don’t expect everyone to be rank 1 on showdown and be the most tryhard player ever but it gets me on my nerves (and partially breaks my heart) when people are playing and you can’t talk about anything Pokémon related with them because they literally know nothing about the franchise and they’re not even interested in learning about it.
(Me)
Exactly. It shames the people who actually has been playing Pokemon for a long time. It just frustrates me when all I see on my Facebook newsfeed is like 30 posts of Pokemon Go. Makes me want to unfriend everyone because they don’t even know anything about Pokemon besides capturing Pokemon, training them, trading them, and hatching them. And those are broad as hell topics. I can honestly say that everyone in this PM specializes in something Pokemon related whether it’d be breeding, trading, competitive battling, etc. So we stay true to the franchise as the next gen is going to be huge. Like the world huge.
I’ll post and explain every single mechanism when I get a new 3DS. But for now, you have this long post to read.
