Point a domain name to a virtual server (DNS or nameserver or both?)

Hi guys,

Very basic question (I hope!) - I’m kinda new to managing domain names and servers.

I have a domain name with one host (123 Reg) and a virtual server (with Demon.net) - I want to point the domain name to the virtual server.

Do I need to change the domain name’s DNS Settings, the Nameservers or both? What is the difference between these?

  1. You need to install Name Servers first
  2. Then you will need to point your domain name to those name servers.

well, the virtual server already had nameservers, so that’s what I did and it seems to be working. thanks! :slight_smile:
