Plugin tutorial for slider/gallery development

Looked around for some “from scratch” tutorials and the explanations they have aren’t really comparable to how the already existing plugins do it. Usually they imply some kind of plugin to help with development which is not what I want. Anyone by chance have an actual step-by-step method on how to configure a custom post type or whatever is needed order to build one?

Would I even need a custom post type?

Honestly, kind of surprised no one has made one.

It does help a bit, obviously I need more research on option making and then passing those options to something like a script tag. This is much better than the few others I have seen, thanks.
