hi
i was wondering if any of you are experts who are familiar with Plesk? i run into some problem while working on a client’s site who run on Plesk+windows webhosting.
my task is to migrate my client’s fugly static website (HTML) to CMS (PHP), and give it a tidy look and organised content. For the CMS, im actually using Concrete5. Before i start configuring my client’s Plesk control panel, his old static (HTML) website is running normally.
I then installed concrete5 in his webhost and everything was ok apart from minor glitches here and there. they were eventually fixed by myself without the help of tech support. i then installed my client’s concrete5 new template, work on the contents and doing the SEF (search engine friendly) URL. That is when everything start f***** up. since SEF’s need CHMOD-ding applied on their .htaccess file, i cant do it in my FTP. it generates this error:
“500 ‘SITE CHMOD 644 .htaccess’: command not understood”
From what I known, Windows environment wont allow CHMOD. Ok, fine with that.
I then logged in the Plesk cp and check, and i find all the permissions - read write are intact. But whenever i changed the permission in Web directory > Permissions, the default settings from the webhosting company seems to override my settings.
What seemed to be a small glitch then became serious. Unsatisfied with that part, i fiddled with Web directory > Preferences, and tick whatever is unticked and unticked whatever is ticked. To my horror, not only my newly installed CMS dont work, my client’s old static HTML site is also down! The error generated is:
“The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.”
Well, i thought it must be the wrong settings. So i tuned the settings back to the way it was before i fiddled it. Damn! Both my newly installed CMS & my client’s old HTML website wont load at all! And it remained ‘down’ up till now!
What is worse now becomes a nightmare. I fired up 4 emails with 3 support tickets to my client’s webhost tech support requesting them to investigate. But all my plight fall on deaf ears. They didnt reply me at all, and it is ongoing for 3 weeks now, and it has reached stalemate. I am in limbo now as I cannot continue to work on my client’s project with the ‘down’ error. Luckily enough my client is understanding and he is not in the rush to get it done, but im so so frustrated that his webhosting is not cooperative at all. they had wasted my time before this, and now they are wasting my time again. (my client’s webhost sucks)
My question is to all the Plesk experts in this forum, what is the recommended settings in Web directory > Preferences so that I can get at least my client’s old HTML site to run normally again?? I might overlook some of those, just in case if you have any ideas, or tips, please enlighten me.
Im really crap at Plesk as this is my first time working on it. This is because on my previous projects and on my own personal projects i have been using DirectAdmin or CPanel.
Thanks in advance.
