Please help these aspiring designers

We’ve noticed a number of students have signed up recently and asked for feedback on sites they’ve designed as part of their college course. This is great to see; we’re always keen to encourage the next generation of designers and developers.

As we no longer have a dedicated Review section, the requests are dotted about the different categories, and perhaps are not getting the attention they deserve. So we thought we’d draw attention to them here, and ask our members to do their bit to help by taking the time to
review one or two sites and provide some helpful feedback/advice. Even if you consider yourself a newbie, you can still provide valuable feedback on design, ease of use and other aspects of the sites. So come on - pick a topic and start reviewing!

Fantastic.
Having one, centralized, place for these also makes it much easier to provide feedback. I want to second The Bear’s encouragement to visit each of these and provide earnest critical feedback.

I know I’ve commented on at least one of them so far, but hadn’t realised this many had appeared - the titles make it easy to think you’ve already read/responded. Would they all be better located in the ‘Getting Started’ section, or has that already been done?

Well that’s part of the problem.

As we no longer have a dedicated “Reviews” section, we ask folk to post in the most appropriate category. So if somebody asks primarily for design feedback, it should go in Design & UX; if they want feedback mainly on their content, then it should go in Content…

The thing is, I thought that many of our more experienced members might be happy to help out with reviews, but wouldn’t necessarily visit these areas very often. So the best thing to do seemed to be draw attention to them in a place most folk do visit, and link from here, so it doesn’t really matter which category they’re in.

They could all be moved, but I don’t know how much that might help.

(You can also search for topics by tag; I think these all have site-review tags.)

I guess I’m still getting used to how things work around here. As it happens, I only really use the ‘Latest Posts’ link, so the section doesn’t become relevant to me unless I’m starting my own topic. As it’s nearly weekend here, I’ll see if I can add a few comments later on - can’t say fairer than that now, can I?

PS. Where did you get your smiley from? I can’t see that one in the list…

See

Some smilies are pre-configured… So if you put certain caracters together, they will automatically show.

Example: if you write : thought_balloon : (no white spaces in the middle) you’ll se :thought_balloon:

If you write : ) you’ll see

Yes, but not mine.

Not yet anyway, there is a plugin to fix that (if we ever get it installed)

Perhaps it will come with the 502 fix… :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I still need to add some cool icons to that one…

Athough I think there’s a cooler version …
