if I have three paragraphs of font, say 12pt, and want 18pt between the paragraphs, PS also puts 18pt between the lines of the paragraphs!! is there a way to put a certain spacing between paragraphs and a different spacing betw the lines of the paragraphs? I don’t see a distinction in PS betw paragraph spacing (and certainly no distinction betw top and bottom paragr spacing) and line spacing, like MS Word has…
what you want is LEADING. Leading is the space between the lines, and is controlled from the CHARACTER control panel. use the PARAGRAPH panel to insert space between carriage returns. BTW this mean you have to let text wrap naturally, each type you press the RETURN key, is considered a new paragraph ( that just the way it is) . If you , for some reason must force a wrap… press SHIFT+RETURN.
ok, so line-spacing is “leading”… I did two paragraphs with font 22px… one with leading of 24px, other with leading of 36px… so far so good… but I do not see, in paragraph panel, how to set space betw paragraphs… I only see how to set space horizontally betw paragraphs (or in front of paragraph, or how to indent first line, etc…)
(can’t do screenshot of paragr panel, don’t have any place where to post it… can’t attach to here… after selecting file I don’t see “upload file” (either that or nothing happens after doing “upload file”…) probably b/c my connection is very slow… I’m on a mac, PS version is CS5… at any rate, you can see paragr panel here, http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/formatting-paragraphs.html)
#1 you must MAKE A BOX with the TEXT TOOL ( otherwise the text wont know when to wrap) #2 Adjust your leading ( line spacing) in the leading field (right of the font size) of the CHARACTER window. MENU: WINDOWS> CHARACTER #3 Adjust your paragraph spacing using the space before/after fields in the PARAGRAPH window. MENU: WINDOWS> PARAGRAPH. #4 ( VERY IMPORTANT) when typing your text DON’T hit return unless you want a new paragraph. That’s the typographically correct way to do it anyway.
