Photoshop cs4 extended

hi,

I hope it’s to ask a Photoshop question here…

I started a new job recently, am on PS CS4 extended, had never used it before (don’t like it too much…

I have two main problems with it:

  1. I want window -> arrange -> float all windows to be the default… right now I have to change this setting every time I open a file…

  2. when I click on a portion of image to find out what layer it is (with auto-select turned on for select tool) it takes me to group that contains layer, not to layer… how can I change that?

thank you very much…

oh – I don’t feel “that way” about PS at all!! I have been using PS for over 10 years and I love it… I’m not crazy about the “extended” version, for the reasons mentioned in my previous post…

yep… it’s a question of what you’re used to… I had never used extended version before, didn’t even know it exists (so those PS “objects” are only possible with extended version?)

I meant about extended version. My mistake, sorry. I’ve always worked on extended versions and wouldn’t change it for anything. Guess it’s all about personal preference.

sure, happy to help…

actually first question (auto-selecting layers) was stupid question, in options for select tool there’s a dropdown where you choose whether to auto-select layer or group…

second issue I realized if you drag down on top bar of image window it “decouples”… becomes a floating window…

in general don’t like PS Extended at all… esp those PS “objects” that sometimes designers create w/sw other than PS (Illustrator, etc…) so you can’t open them (I only have PS at work, don’t have Illustrator…) it’s a pain…

Sorry you feel that way about PS. It actually takes some time to get used to it after which you’ll love it. I’m using CS4 extended and have CS5 but haven’t installed it yet cause i like CS4 too much. Give ti some time and you wont regret it.
Illustrator can be tricky a bit at first. Especially if you’re used to Photoshop although they are very similar.

Hi Maya,

Sorry I couldn’t help I did have a poke around but I’m on a mac (you seem to be on a PC as the terms were slightly different) and I also have access to CS3 & CS5 but not CS4. Glad you solved the problems but it would be great if you could post a para or two about how you did it in case someone else comes looking for the same thing. Just a thought.

If you have any further questions people do read these forums and are happy to help if they can.

I have solved both these problems… sorry for the bother…

(can u remove yr own posts?)

thank you…
