Photoshop CS 5 grid constraint

Can anyone please tell me how to constrain grid lines to within the guides of a document rather than the entire document using PS CS5? Thanks!

I don’t understand your question.

Sorry, my question wasn’t clear. Reminder to self not to post late at night when I’m tired!

I created guides within a PS document to indicate where I should not place any elements. When I enable grids (View=>Show=>Grid), the grid shows relative to the entire document. What I’d like is for the grid to show relative to the area within the guides only. Alternatively, is there a way to enable grid lines to show only within a selection, again relative to the selection and not the entire document? I’d rather not have to manually create a grid layer, if possible.

I hope this clarifies my original question.

Thanks for your help,
Krikket

I’m 99.9% sure there’s no way to do that.

You probably already know this, but you can change the grid size by going into Photoshop’s preferences > Guides, Grid & Slices. That combined with the correct document dimensions…

Thanks, Flackend, yes I know how to change the grid. I was just hoping that I could constrain it to a selection or within guidelines. Thanks for your response.

I don’t know of anyway to do it either. I think that setting it up and then tracing over the grid lines on a separate layer that can then be limited/masked to the appropriate areas is another alternative. Rather than turning the grid on and off you can turn the layer on and off or lock it on a set opacity.

Thanks, Slackr, that what I’ve done.

its not possible in photoshop CS5

Included in the functionality of Cameron McEfee’s Photoshop plugin Guide Guide is the ability to constrain grids to a selection.
