Photoshop Action and Batch to resize images

What happens if you just run the action inside photoshop, without using the droplet?

Absolutely.

I’m not sure why it’s happening, but if I click the cancel button when the dialogue appears, then the action works fine. If I click the replace button, then only one thumbnail is created and it’s always the last image in the source folder. I’ve tried everything to suppress the ‘replace’ dialogue pop-up, but with unsuccessful results.

I even tried to delete my action and replace with a new one following different steps. Still, I get the ‘replace’ dialogue.

At any rate, the batch process saved me a load of work on creating thumbnails once I figured out to hit the cancel button everytime the dialogue appeared.

Being that the batch process only let’s you specify one source and destination folder, and one action from one set, placing images in more than one folder isn’t doable from what I can see. Unless there is a text file in the Program Files folder that allows you to modify the script.

KC…

I ran into the same problem with the “replace” dialog box and finally figured out that if I saved my file to my destination folder while I was recording my action, I didn’t have the problem. Did you do that? I’m not trying to be rude, just to make it clear in case my instructions were a little vague.

And your right, you can’t do much about placing images where you want when the action is running. You can only do one folder for source and one for destination.

Agh, that’s terrible. Ahh well, perhaps in future versions. Thanks.

Hi, i have a question… I’m trying to batch process …alot of images…but everytime i run the batch, the picture quality appears after each image, asking me to save at what size. This is alot to go thorugh when i have thousands of pics, is there a way around this? So far from what i’ve seen, the answer is no. *single tear

I just want to override the old files with new dimensions…

Uzzz - choose Save for web instead of Save As when recording your action

KC - make sure while you’re recording your action, when you choose save for web and choose the folder you want to save it in, that you DON’T change the name of the file that save for web wants to use. This should fix your problem

Now, does anyone know if its possible to make an action that looks on the users desktop for a folder and if it cant be found actually creates that folder and saves the image in there?

Thanks in advance

Don’t forget about droplets where you can create an icon that you can just drag files to to activate a batch option

A droplet is a small application that applies an action to one or more images that you drag onto the Droplet icon in Photoshop or in ImageReady. You can save a droplet on the desktop or to another location on disk.

Drag a file or folder onto the droplet icon in Photoshop or in ImageReady. If the application you used to create the droplet is not currently running, the droplet starts the program.

if anyone is interested I solved my problem using scripting

Does anyone knows how can i put the file name inside the picture, not just one but 300 or more, do i have to create any action? I´m a wedding photographer and for me is important to put the number of the picture inside the picture to the guest´s choose by that number wich one they want to buy. Can you help me?

In photoshop, file > automate > contact sheet II

you select the folder, how many photos per page (by setting the rows and columns), and it will show the filename as a caption

Thank you anyway but I want to print a 10x15 with the number in front because there is a problem with the contact sheet II, you only can put the numbers straight with the photos that are up because the photos taken down
don´t fill the contact sheet and they are very small, if i set to rotate to best fit the numbers are on the side and it´s confuse to pick the right number special in this kind of partys because the guest´s are a litle drunk but thank you again !

I have an original image size that I need to re-size in 4 different dimensions. I have to keep the same name and save them in 4 different folders. I have created the actions to do the re-sizing but I can get the action to save each dimension in different folders. Can anyobe help me please!?!?

Thanks in advance

Very nice tutorial but I have to add a remark for people who try to resize all the files in a certain folder and want to save them in a new folder each time.

I had folders with images like:

originalimagefolder1
originalimagefolder2
originalimagefolder3

When I changed the destination folder for each action to respectively (3 individuel batch calls)

resizedimagefolder1
resizedimagefolder2
resizedimagefolder3

All the files were still saved in the resizedimagefolder1 because that’s where my first file was saved when recording the action. It doesn’t make sense since I changed the destination each time but the destination of the recorded action seems to override this.

Hi I am getting the same error as KC.

What seems to be happening is that the temporary file name that was being used in the Save to the Web during recording the action is being used over and over for each real original file being cycled through.

Is the batch process not providing the file name and the action’s output filename being used.

tsion,
I’m only new to Photoshop (2 weeks), After a day at a motor show I could end up with upto 100 photos, and I used to have to resize my photos one at a time, but I just set this up and it works bloody well.
Thank you.
