I have used Photoshop I have tried to get a transparent background on an picture. I have the picture surrounded by the checkerboard. But when I placed it into In Design, it has showed a white background. Can anybody tell me what I do now?
Hi josephley. Welcome to the forums. 
What you’ve described should work fine. Perhaps describe in more detail how you are going about this. Here’s a simple workflow:
- open the image in Ps. Double click on its layer name in the Layers palette to make sure it doesn’t say “Background” any more.
- cut out the background, so that you get the checkerboard background. Save.
- In InDesign, choose File > Place, and place the image where you want.
If the background is transparent i guess you should choose the png format right? Thats what im always using.
Are you choosing the PSD file and placing that in InDesign? Don’t make a JPG image out of the PSD image or the background will go white.
I`m sure you saved as JPEG or GIF, then imported to indesign. Try opening your saved file with Photoshop, and you will see it has that background. You need to save it as PNG and make sure it has the transparency checked, or save as PSD without background.
I think you made mistake on photo type during it saving. you should be use .png extension or save type during save any pic if you want that in transparent
If you are placing into InDesign you don’t need to save the file separately. Place the photoshop file. You can manage the layers visibility from within InDesign and if you want to edit something you can launch the placed file in Photoshop edit and save and the placeholder image in InDesign will automatically update to reflect the changes.
