For those of you in the US. When paying international contractors, do you send them a 1099? Do international contractors have to pay US taxes when dealing with US employers?
I once received a 1099 form from a US company that I do work for. It went straight in the shredder.
Contractors from outside the US (assuming they’re not US citizens) do not have to pay taxes in the US. They’ll have to pay taxes in their local jurisdiction, but that’s not you’re concern, so you won’t have to send them anything other than money
That’s what I figured. US companies might send out 1099 to international contractors just to cover their own butt for tax purposes. What the contractor does with that document doesn’t have anything to do with the US company. I didn’t think the contractor had any tax liability.
