Opera sold to a Chinese Firm

Whoever uses Opera, does this surprise you? Does it affect your depending on the browser? Do you mind it being sold, and do you trust the new owners to continue development and keep the browser as you like it?

Personally I don’t use Opera, so this is just sideline news for me.

It’s a bit sad, I still have great trust in the Norwwgian crew.

I have used Opera from the start and the short time it wasn’t free. I lost interest after Opera 12 but have from time to time used Opera Mini on Symbian and Android mobiles.

I have also used UCWeb/UCBrowser from its start and continued as an alternative to the Opera Mini. Both proxy browsers hosted in Norway and China, but I found the UCWeb more suitable with configurable shortcuts. Privacy was less of a concern with a dedicated browser mobile using different wifis.

The Chinese UCBrowser is a success in Asia and I wonder if it’s a competitor company that now has bought the Opera for its mobile browsers. What do you think?

No - they completely lost the plot after Opera 12 - Vivaldi is the new Opera now.

I was surprised by the news. Sure makes me feel that the proverbial “fat lady” has sung the final notes at the Opera.
