Online movies

What do you think when you hear the phrase “free movies online”? Is it suspicion of copyright infringement, shadowy looking download sites, or excitement over the tremendous viewing possibilities? While the checkered past of free movies online has some people cautious, let’s set the record straight about the right places to watch free movies online.

The first two.

I agree with EarlyOut. “Tremendous viewing possibilities” is definitely not what I’m thinking—I’m still suspicious. It depends on other factors as well, like the graphic design and amount/look of advertisements, but that’s my general feeling about these sites.

There are very few instances where movies are available for free online. Hulu is one exception I’m aware of.

There are lots of sites these days offering movies online for free. Whenever i hear this phrase i feel that whether the site is fake i mean some sites even optimize their free movies keywords though they are not providing free service. That’s why whenever i feel to download movies i just do it through some sites which charges for it.

Just because a site charges for movies, doesn’t make it legal either. There are fake sites out there which do charge for movies.

Spam, spam, spam, spam :smashy:

I love to hear people say free movies, but when you actually get to the movie it takes forever to upload the movie , but all in all the people that makes the movie doesn’t’ get paid.

Haha! I agree, I’ve tried downloading once, but it’s just pretty ridiculous that it’s taking almost a day or two to DL. I would just rather go to the movie house and enjoy it on big screen.

Not just it is taking very long but it has a virus as part of its package… Suspicious malwares or worms are included. That makes a free in free movies…

:x

But…I think there are lots of movies are available for free in various torrent sites. Those are one+ years old are of very good quality; but the newest are pirated as hall printed and very bad in quality.

A movie that is over a year old is NOT in the public domain which, if it were, would make it free. Copyright lasts for decades, not for a year.

Here is a list of films in the public domain:

List of films in the public domain in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notice that no popular blockbusters are on that list. Most movies found on torrent sites are not there legally.

Nice list. I’m actually surprised how new (relatively speaking) some of those are actually. =p

I would caution against downloading those that are noted with items like “missing copyright notice”. Presenting a copyright notice is not a requirement of copyright.

-nods in agreement-

Additionally, don’t take a list on wikipedia or other internet source as 100% valid. If you really wish to find out the copyright status of a particular work, you will need to do some leg work.

You can use general internet sources for general reference, but not absolute fact and truth, especially where legal matters are concerned.

I agree with most of the above. Typically, when I see the words “Free” flashing in front of me, my inner cynicism erupts and I feel as though I should stay away from something like this.

I use to download online movies with the help of torrent client from torrent.eu

I always find the quality of streaming movie sites to be terrible.
