Old Links Are Not Showing As Backlink, WHY?

A year ago I had a lot of backlinks from forum, blog comment and SBM. But now, I lost almost 90% of those backlinks. Why is the reason?

I see many comments in disqus that aren't showing up in my backlinks profile. Do I need to be active everyday to keep my backlinks alive?

Please tell me how to make those old links alive again.

Maybe read this, and don't waste time thinking about it:-

Link schemes

Additionally, creating links that weren’t editorially placed or vouched for by the site’s owner on a page, otherwise known as unnatural links, can be considered a violation of our guidelines. Here are a few common examples of unnatural links that may violate our guidelines:

Welcome to the forums, @beingmysterious74.

Links which you place yourself, such as forums and blog comments, are regarded as worthless by search engines. Reputable sites will mark such links as nofollow, in accordance with Google's guidelines (as SitePoint does). Followed links from poor quality sites will be at best disregarded and at worst may result in your site being penalised, as explained in the article @SamA74 linked to.

Thanks for the link, I was so lazy to go through these guidelines before. :frowning: However, I see I made some mistakes that are mentioned in those guidelines.

What am I supposed to do now? Delete all those blog comments?

What is the natural way to do link building? Only guest posting with natural anchor text?

Yeah, I understand @techno. I read in some article, there must be 70% nofollow links and 30% dofollow (which will look natural in eyes of Google). I just wanted to built backlinks, what's the best way to do so?

#6

That's nonsense. Who's to say what's natural?

Forget about building links, which is an outdated technique, and concentrate instead on earning links, by having high-quality content which other sites will choose to link to. These are the only links worth anything now, as far as search engines are concerned.

@TechnoBear, I read about that long ago on some highly reputed blog. Anyways, I'm going to delete all those blog comments or low quality SBM links.

Thank you so much for your precious info, very much appreciated.

Just wanted to know - If paid links, guest posting, buying & selling links gives negative impact on ranking, how come SEO agencies are doing so good? Hundreds of agencies are providing SEO services, are they really worth it now ??

Because most people are misinformed and get taken by people who don't really know what they're talking about. And a successful online business is not about links/backlinks/whateverlinks. It's about good quality content that gets people to stay and look at it, and even more importantly, purchase the goods or service being offered.

@DaveMaxwell Ok, I understand it's not about building links.

Ok for example - I'm about to start a new e-commerce store of affiliate website. How do I rank well on Google where my competitors have DA of 30, 40, 50+ and with hundreds of external links?

IMHO, you should not waste time and effort focusing on links. They will come naturally as long as you are unique and stand apart from others. More difficult in a crowded niche, true, but not impossible.

For example, if you promised, guaranteed, and delivered "99.99% commissions" I'm sure you would get much interest.

Another thing to consider is paid advertising. It seems most don't want to invest a cent when in truth most if not all successful businesses have needed to make an initial financial investment to get off the ground.

#12

By having high-quality, unique content which can compete with theirs.

Search engines no longer care about how many links you have. They have long since realised that it's much too easy to manipulate that metric - hence they all now have policies which will penalise anyone found creating links with the intention of influencing search results. Search engines are in the business of returning the best pages for any given search term, so quality content is the most important factor.

That you so much for your help everyone. Very much appreciated.
Will only focus on building high quality content, and not links.
