Ufff… that’s a lot to explain but basically they used video and pictures as bakground in a fixed position and the other divs simply go over and lots of javascript.
A first look look like a one page website so if you search for that you should be able to know the techniques used in this particular one
Yes, sorry, the question was way way too open ended.
I like the trend in one page sites with parallax and jQuery smooth scrolling. There are some lovely examples out there. I guess I was hoping someone had stumbled across a tutorial that covered parts of the aspects involved in the ny times page.
