Newbie question: How does the bridging between your website to your account work?

Hi all:

I am fairly new to the ecommerce world. I normally sell my items offline and now I am trying to push it online for a better result.

Long story short, I will be selling ONE item at a static price. Or maybe two items at two static price. This means I have very few choice on my website on the prices. I have the site up running joomla with my own template.

On the other hand, my friend does credit card processing and is willing to hook me up with some low processing fees. He mentioned that he will give me gateway code etc.

At this point, I need to know how can i bridge the data I have collected from my website (using a form) to the gateway?

I dont think i need any ecommerce CMS as i am only selling two products.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

You’ll have to refer to the documentation of the gateway you use. Each one has their own API.

Yes, some credit card processing platforms will allow you to import a .csv or txt file. Some will require manual entry. Depends on your platform

The majority of gateways have a web form option. You just insert a form on the page, and clicking on Submit takes you to a secure payment page hosted by the gateway itself, where customer can enter all their details. When they submit the payment page, they get redirected back to your store, to some “success page”.

Even if you have a only 1 product, using a
“real” shopping cart system can make you
look like a “real” business.

People really don’t like to buy from the “guy
in his bedroom” …they like to knwo there’s some
backing, support, etc.

So even if you are the guy in the corner bedroom,
try not to look like you are and you’ll sell more.
