First off welcome to SitePoint, to get straight into it my main concern is the overall size of your website in general. While you have a designed a very clean website on load it’s 7.5mb/s which is WAY TOO BIG and took me 2 minutes and 17 seconds to load fully as your background and images are simply too large, there are a lot of great tools you can get for image compression but personally i like to use Adobe Fireworks as it seems to have one of the best compression engines around.
As a side note i did run a validation test and your currently missing a charset meta tag, if you simply add the following in your <head></head> tags it will eliminate any issues if you choose to use non-standard ASCII characters such as Chinese and such.
