New Indian rupee symbol approved!

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/IIT-post-graduate-gives-Rupee-its-symbol/646761

There is now a new, official, international symbol for the Indian rupee. It looks like a stemless capital “R” with an equal sign going through the top of the R (reminding me of the = inside the euro symbol).

I wonder how long it will take for this new symbol to receive its unicode code??

Eskimos needs handy ice breakers more !

If you can hook an eskimo up with a dolphin (so the eskimo has big financial backing), that’s a wildly lucrative field as well!

Better than selling refrigerators to eskimos??

Oh yes, dolphin suntan lotion is the most untapped microniche ever!

I thought a slip was a thin underdress you wore under your regular dress, so people couldn’t see through. : )

Yeah it is cool reading about stuff like “troff” and learning where some of the terms come from. I think all CS students should know what a carriage return is. In fact, they should all have a go at a typewriter (or also a computer with a printer instead of a monitor).

I think all my unix books spend some time explaining the history a bit, though.

BTW I love your sig, BLZ.

Hahahaha. I was just discussing where Carriage Return actually comes from and explaining what a “slip” (as in dress slip) is to my littlest brother the other day.

It seems more like they refined it. The original symbol looks similar Rs (there’s a Unicode for it).

Wikipedia is using svg’s for now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupee

cool never saw such thing before in any continent that they change the sign of their currency…

Damn good design of of the Indian rupee…

Just say “it’s those keyboards from the steampunk era” and they’ll get it : )

with musket balls!

You may have to explain to some of the younger members what a ‘typewriter’ is …

Funny, the typewriters are almost able to just do this…

before there was a glyph for the euro, you could type a C and then backspace and then = : )

The $ is awesome, because it looks like an “S”, so it matches perfectly with Perl’s “scalars”

$calars lawlz.

And for a glyph to be included in all the ‘web safe’ fonts.
And for people to upgrade to those versions of the fonts.

A few years, surely.

True dat.

I just find the symbol boring.
Unless it’s followed by large numbers and in my chequing acc’t. Then it’s a-ok!

[FONT=“Georgia”]hahaha, Trust me, I much rather hold dollars than rupees.

It’s cool. I really like it.

The more I think about, the more I think the plain old dollar sign just blows.

I like it very much ! It’s smart !

it reminds me of the Rolls Royce logo…
