hello,
I WANT TO BE A NETWORK ENGINEER or EXPERT PLEASE WHERE SHOULD I START FROM… WHICH BOOK CAN I READ?? I WANT TO READ ON MY OWN IS THAT POSSIBLE-- AT-LEAST FOR NOW??
I DO WAIT YOUR ADVICE THANKS
There are various types of Network Engineers but you could read some of the Cisco Systems materials if you want to become a Networking Professional; involved mainly with routers, etc.
Ok, thank very much for the reply… Please I need to know which type of Book to buy to start with… I mean the name of the books…
If your in the UK another option maybe the CompTIA Network+ certification (I don’t know if it’s run outside of the UK). I don’t know how widely accepted it is but hopefully it would not be too much “vendor specific” (the Cisco courses will be to some degree “biased” towards their own products). If you do the Network+ it may pay to consider also doing the CompTIA A+ which is basically a PC engineering/repair/installing course as depending on where you intend to get employment the potential employer may well prefer someone who can look after both the network infrastructure and the computers which use the network.
Both CompTIA and Cisco have got books out for their respective courses, I don’t know how out of date they may be compared with any edition they may issue with their course material.
Try contacting potential employers around where you live and ask them what qualifications they generally look out for/expect potential employees to have.
One thing to consider is that some courses you have to take refresher exams at regular intervals, which have to be passed to keep the certification, the other main thing to keep in mind is the cost, some exams may cost a lot to take (into the £100s).
Hello
Thank so much for your Reply… Well, for the both side… I will like to Know Which Book To read from the Start… I don’t have money to pay for School now… But I am looking for Book to buy and start reading on my Own… I will really appreciate the if I can get the name of the Book for the both side of the Course… thanks
For the Cisco CCNA, I don’t know what the current companion book(s) are called (a search brings up “Cisco CCNA Exam Certification Guide” which may well be the books used by anyone doing the course).
but in any case if your not too worried about if being the current one then you’ll probably be able to pick up a second hand one from an online auction site or classified ads. AFAIK the CCNA has 4 modules and I think it’s either one book per module or one book for the first two modules and another book for the other two modules.
For the Network+ I think going by a search, the book is called “CompTIA Network+ Study Guide Exam”.
Ok, Thank very Much…
The compTIA Network+ book gives you a little nice introduction to networking, I can vouch for that because I have it at home
I’ve done the full CCNA but that was before they changed the CCNA material again a few years back. The CCNA mainly focuses on industrial routers and subnetworking calculations and is very theory based: Courses & Certifications - Cisco Systems
The SPF book Thinking Web Thinking Web: Voices of the Community does briefly have something on TCP/IP networking - even though the silly Editors annoyingly “dumbed it down” and created some errata.
I’ve also done some material covering the CompTIA on a different Cisco course. That was because I could get a huge discount on the CCNA material by actually doing two different courses and exams and it worked out cheaper than just the doing the CCNA.
There are also some nice Networking Books by Cisco Press not just the course material books even beginner level: [URL=“http://www.ciscopress.com/series/series.asp?st=44241”]First-Step Series plus others if you search around on that site. I have a few of their other ebooks, which are more practical for general networking concepts.
hello, Thank you all for the Advice… Well, I have Finish Studying the Network+ Course … I will like to know which other Course I can take Next… Thanks
