Negotiating salary during interview

yeah they are really annoying… within 2 days my voice mail is full!! also learned never put personal e-mail on monsters.com… so many e-mails… I’d say 90% of them are garbage.

When a client offers a ‘range’ of prices, you will always get the highest part of the range

The employer decides what to pay, you decide to accept it or not. Do your homework so you’ll have a range in mind and go to the high end of that.

The above applies to non-executive positions, where salaries are well-known and competitive from both sides. In executive positions, salary is based on value to the company and varies widely from situation to situation. I had the occasion where an employer made a substantial offer that would have jumped at had I not been given the following advice: when reviewing the offer, assume a worried look, and count to 30. Then review your qualifications and how excited you are about the position, but you’re sorry, but the offer just doesn’t meet your needs. Doing so in this case resulted in a subsequent offer 33% higher. Yes, 1/3 more.

Haha… that’s awesome! I assume you took it?

we can negotiate but there is limit for that…you can share it that what you deserve but we cant say 25 k after 10k…so if its negotialble then good

Man that’s crazy! 33% more!? I’ll try that technique next time.

That negotiation tactic is only effective under the right circumstances, which is essentially that the employer has underbid and in need. It’s like putting out a set percentage below the asking price on a house - it only makes sense if the asking price is reasonable. But it’ not - asking prices are arbitrary sometimes, high and low.

The key to successful negotiation is to have a true understanding of exactly what you are worth in the marketplace, and exactly what the true needs and wants of the negotiation partner are. Only then will you always know how to react to whatever they throw out there.

i base my salary on my current expense + benefits + amount money i want to save. I don’t know if that is right.

but as fas as negotiation is concerned i’ll say, if the job description wasn’t discussed, i’m looking for a fair renumeration.

During the course of the interview, try to be confident so you can justify the salary you will be asking for. Look at the internet with regards the salary range in terms of years of experience and other qualifications.
