I have a web site where mp3s are sold and the speaker that’s in these mp3s is sold. The company name I’m doing this under takes a commission of the profits, then the rest goes to the speaker.
I’m unsure of the best way to handle payroll/commissions for this for the speaker. Payroll checks will only be issued to the speaker once every 3-6 months or so, so I’d like to get a payroll service that charges me when a check is issued and only then.
How many speakers are you dealing with? Would it be possible just to batch out checks internally to your organization?
To me, it doesn’t sound like a payroll situation; are the speakers your employees? It sounds more like a royalty/use fee situation, which is different in terms of you obligations, at least here in the US.
FWIW, we use ADP; we have ten folks on payroll and it costs around $100/mo. But they do a lot more stuff than just write checks.
Is is a full time employee of yours?
Is it a 1099 contractor?
Is it someone to whom you routinely pay royalties?
Do the speakers have their own corporations/entities do they all want to be paid as individuals?
It sounds like it’s probably a 1099 situation, which is super easy if the volume is low. Don’t get involved in payroll unless you have full time employees, you won’t need it (in most cases).
