Need recommendations for Picture gallery software

Can anybody give me any recommendations for gallery software that I can use for my website <snip> as I know I can do much better than what I’m currently using, which is Galleria.

What do you need the gallery to do? There are lots of other free ones, but each is different, so it’s hard to recommend something unless we know what you’d really like to see.

Coopermine is pretty good but im not 100% sure it would fit for what you need.

@Shyflower - The reason why I included the link was so that people who were posting to this thread could see what my current gallery layout looked like so they could offer advice on how it could be improved. I was in no way trying to promote my site at all! mad

After doing much thinking about what I’d like in a gallery, this is what I’d like to see, layout-wise if it was possible to create it using gallery software:

  • Grid-type layout within a frame (an example of the frame layout can be found here for reference purposes (For example; a 4 x 4 grid).
  • Pop-up thumbnail when an mouse icon hovers over a picture that can be clicked on.

Note to Moderators: The link that I have posted in this post is not meant for people to comment on my website at all. it is only meant for reference purposes ONLY so that people can see what I’m referring to; layout-wise and that is it, so I would appreciate not deleting this link, thank you very much!

Sorry BorgmanJayce, but I still can’t really picture what gallery layout you are after. I’ve seen quite a few galleries out there, but I can’t suggest one without a clear idea of what you want to see. Perhaps you could create an image of what you want to see? (I didn’t understand that grid link.)

ralph.m, I hope I can help in trying to explain further what I hope to find in the perfect gallery software

I definitely know that I want the gallery to have a thumbnail pop-up when you hover over a picture that you click on to view the bigger version of said picture.

My apologies if it’s not easy to describe the look of what I’d want to see in a gallery page), especially as I thought that Galleria could do the job that I required for said gallery on my site and even though it’s a good piece of software, it could be better in various areas, especially where navigation and picture viewing is concerned. (Ironically enough, I just started a degree in Computer Studies in Liverpool and one of the modules involves website design, so I guess I’ll be studying a bit about website navigation at a later date)

Navigation wise, with Galleria, you can view the gallery page in grid form (if that’s any help), a slideshow, popout (but you can’t save the actual picture using that option) and fullscreen.

I’d say that if you view the grid form of one of the gallery pages, that would be a good example of what I’m trying to explain when it comes to what I want the grid layout to look like within a frame on a page.

I’ve checked out Coppermine as well as Gallery and they’re good software, but at the same time, I’m concerned about the fact that people might not like having to go through one or more folders just to view a picture, especially if there’s only a small number of pictures in one gallery, for example.

In the meantime, I want to thank you and the others for the help that you’ve given me so far.

There are many choices:
Coppermine, Gallery, zenphoto, piwigo, 4images choose the one you like.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I’ve checked them all out and the ones I’ve decided against using are:

I’ve decided against using Coppermine as it doesn’t seem to give me what I want while 4Images is way too expensive, license wise and too similar to Coppermine. Zenphoto and Piwigo are OK, but I’ll probably create demo versions on seperate sites as well as do a test on Menalto’s Gallery software.

In the meantime, any other recommendations would be most appreciated.

Hey try flash photo gallery software too. It’s always better than Galleria.

There are two options
One is to make a gif image in Adobe Image ready
Other option is to make gallery of images in adobe flash.

I just wanted to add a thumb up for Galleria. I had good results in terms of SEO with it.

Yes indeed … if you are using quite old software. ImageReady was discontinued about 4 or 5 years ago. These days you make an animaged gif with Photoshop or Fireworks.

Galleria is my favorite option to watch photos. It is so easy to use and understand that a layman can also understand this software easily.

Man… check this link, you will find multiple scripts which are useful for you - http://www.dhtmlgoodies.com/index.html?page=galleryScripts
