The website I’m working on focuses on a table of data and I’m having a real hard time getting it to look good since. Are there any examples of other websites that are mostly just a page that has a large table of data on it that looks good?
Hmm, for some reason I thought I said this already, but I obviously didn’t so…
Okay, well, it’s a table, so there really isn’t too much you can do to make it fancy and pretty (that I can think of off the top of my head anyways). You could add a background to the whole table; add photos of these people; not list it as a table? (or at least not one that obvious) - maybe give each of them like 50% of the page (or something like that) and in the box give some info (other than what’s listed, obviously, something interesting/personal like, “Likes to relax on his deck with his blood hound Sam and watch the birds that live in the trees around the creek.”)
That’s all I can really think of to make it interesting - not making it an obvious table (which I think of as a chart - which is what you have there), and adding photos.
Hi I have some beautiful & creative ways of featuring tables on your web design but as I am a newbie here at this forum and cannot post links right now…so for you I have added the links in updates of my facebook fan page - “Creative web design studio”.
Hope it helps. If it does don’t forget to become a Fan …cheers
Um… I was kinda hoping for a visual. But really since the table’s being used for what it’s meant to be used for I’m not sure what you mean by “looks good”. The only thing I can really think of is having nice font and background colors.
I think smashing magazine did a piece on “inspiring use of tables” or something, showing how you can use CSS to make the tables look “pretty”, although I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
It would be super helpful if you could tell us what kind of data… Also, if you have an example of what you have right now so we would have something to work off of.
Also, this may need to be moved to another forum if you’re asking for design help (thinking about what I just typed there made me realize that it’s a bit confusing).
