Need help figuring out how to overlay image on menu bar

Hi there everyone!

I’m trying to spruce up my header some and I would really love to do the following with this template: http://schw.im/header.html

I would like to have the orange bar with my menu run underneath the center of the image. If possible, I would like the orange bar to not show on the left of the image. I’ve tried a lot of table shenanigans, but so far haven’t been able to figure out how to make this happen.

Any help on achieving this would be greatly appreciated! I’ll leave the linked file alone and work on another so I don’t mess up anyone trying to help.

Well I know it’s a luddite’s solution, but I’ve tested this in 6 browsers and it seems to be working. If you find it to be askew in your browser, I would love to know.
