Need help - advice!

I need help asap.

My host suspended one of my account that I have had for many years.
Here was the reason:
Suspension Reason: CPU mydomain.com/index.php

Anyone know what this is (CPU) and how I can fix this?

Please help me if you can

It looks like your website is using too much disk space or bandwidth. You should talk to them about this and maybe upgrade your account. Sucks a bit that they would just suspend it and not warn you, though. This link may help:

Thanks ralph.m. Good article. This could be the reason. I bought a domain 8-9 months ago and added to the hosting account. It was a celebrity domain and I have gotten e ton of visitors to the site.

Time to go to VPS maybe…

If I choose to change host. Do you know how I can find out how much CPU they can let me use?

A little update…

The domain was bought 8-9 weeks ago… (not months)
I have checked the prices for VPS and it’s a bit more expensive then I can afford.
Maybe I should just sell the domain? Then my other domains would be up and running again

  1. You should go for VPS. 247-host and yeahhost are good and very supportive for VPS and quite cheap also.

  2. If you sell the domain, a) it will be difficult to sell the domain, and b) it does not guarantee that your account is unsupended.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.
Why would it be difficult to sell a popular domain?

Perhaps there’s something in your site that is using more CPU than is necessary. Ask your host if they have any information about which page is causing the high CPU load.

Also, how many visitors does your site get? If you’re getting tens of thousands of visits every hour (or something equally insane), it’s quite possible that shared hosting simply won’t cut it anymore. That will mean:

  1. upgrading your hosting (which will generally make it more expensive)
  2. moving over to something like Amazon’s cloud service, as it will allow you to easily buy more CPU cycles and stuff like that (again, that will cost money).

However, if there’s something in one of your pages that is using too much CPU, it might be possible to optimise the code to use less CPU.

Domain selling process is very lengthy and tiring - selling through some website and then collecting payment online and then transferring domain - all involves a lot of insecurity and risk of loosing the money and domain as well as very less price also many times.

good luck.

What software does your site run on? Most popular CMS/blog applications will have cache plugins available that can drastically reduce the calculations being done per page view that are using up a lot of cpu cycles.

A VPS comes with significant overhead. It may be wiser to go for a so called semi-dedicated package (shared hosting with fewer accounts per server). It will be priced in the $30 range, but it may be enough to host your site. Do speak to the provider first, to see if they’re confident this can be a good fit for your needs.

Alternatively, you could just move only this busy site to a different account/host, see if it fares any better there.

Thanks for sharing.
I’m not a hosting expert, but is it not custom to send out a warning or something from the host to the customer about this before they suspend the account?
If they have done that, it would have given me a chance to fix it.
Now I cannot access the sites and have no chance of fixing it.

The site are using wordpress.
MyDomAinZ.us maybe you are right. I have never sold a domain before.

You would think so, hope so, but it seems it’s not so—at least for you. Make sure to contact them to learn from this, but then pull the chain and flush them out of your life. :frowning:

He he you right ralph.m. I have hosted with them for over 10 years, but I’m not married to them. Maybe it’s time to move on…

I think you need to put on your best Schwarzenegger accent and tell them—“Consider this a divorce.”

And you may now never get back your website because in such CPU overload cases accounts are suspended by data centre and hosts cannot help you. Even though you can contact them and try to backup your website. But be sure chances are even less than 1%.

Good luck.

He He (again)…
I guess the 1% went my way. I sent a word from “Schwarzenegger” (thanks ralph.m) to my hosting provider… and you know what. After 10 min. the sites was back up again

Now I can fix the problem.
Anyone know where I can find out witch file(s) that are using my CPU. Is it in cPanel?

Anyone know where I can find out witch file(s) that are using my CPU. Is it in cPanel?

You will, most likely, need your host’s assistance with this. cPanel is not really designed for server maintenance tasks.

Thanks all. I have disabled some plugins… Let’s hope for the best

As everyone pointed out, you were using too much of the resources for what you were paying especially the CPU.

It means it is time to upgrade to a VPS plan. Get a starter package and work your way up to what you need.
