Need advice on setting up a membership based site

I tried to do a search but couldn’t find anything exactly like what I needed. The situation is that I’m in the process of designing a full on membership type site that will need to capture emails, send out autoreplies with bonus types goods, have a full membership option and a bunch of content only accessible to members etc etc

I have a few years worth of knowledge on this kind of thing from being an affiliate and from being in related business but very little practical experience (which the client is fully aware of but having worked with them in the past they’re happy to proceed on that basis) and what I’m looking for is a guide to setting up this sort of thing and I’d really like one recommended by someone who knows what they’re talking about (like you Dan if you’re reading this!). I have a landing page concept design almost finished, not going to post it in this post in case I contravene a SPF ToS but I would like to show it at some point for feedback.

First question is that there is a full sign up option AND a free ebook email capture type option and I’m wondering how to integrate them on the landing page without confusing the purpose of the page.

Any advice is welcome!

Hey Rich,

While I haven’t used 'em myself, the two best I’ve seen over the years are amember and membergate. Amember is ideal to plug in to an existing site or use with wordpress and it fairly affordable - membergate on the other hand will do everything for you but it’s pretty pricey last time I checked.

Either should be able to do whatever you want with your landing page and feel free to pm a link or post one here later if you’d like a few other opinions.

Yeah, membergate has come up but I’m looking more for an ABC guide to DIY membership sites. I’m going to use Joomla to actually build it and I’m sure I can get a plugin (looking at Amember now), it’s the theory on what the steps are that I’m after.
