She could check if it’s China blocking it by trying via a proxy (how many Chinese access unrestricted Internet… if she doesn’t know how, there’s prolly a geeky kid nearby who does). If she can reach it then, you know for certain that you’ll have to contact an official to get this fixed.
Good sign: she is not getting a server error, and it’s unlikely to be related to her choice of browser.
Uh, what does your girl say specifically shows up on their screens when people try to access the site? Also, what browsers are they using?
A poster here on the forums recently discovered that IE4 was apparently popular in South Korea for some reason, and his site was very broken because of that.
It’s not everywhere, Germany doesn’t have its own firewall, though they’ve been arguing about implementing a child pornography filter there as well. There are some other countries, mostly fundamentalist islamic countries that filter the internet.
I see no reason why our site should be blocked…there is nothing remotely controversial on there…
you don’t have to have controversial content on your site to be blocked by China. There are pretty much no rules governing this, it’s as random as it gets.
Let your Chinese office find out why its filtered and what they can do about it - e.g. would it be possible to host your site within China.
