Is it ok to have multiple pages of our site contain similar written content? For instance, you’ll notice that the homepage here and the product category page here have similar introductory paragraphs. Is that ok? Or is that going to raise SEO red flags with Google? Please advise. Thanks.
Google understands that there are reasons why you might have content duplicated within a site, and has guidelines for dealing with the situation:
Having one or two pages with largely similar content won’t have a negative effect on your site. What they’re trying to prevent is poor-quality sites rehashing the same content over and over again to try to manipulate search rankings.
The chances are that if someone Googles a term related to your duplicate content, only one of the pages containing that content will appear in the serps, that’s all. Google won’t block you completely, but will not offer its users lots of the same content from the same site, as that would be of little value to them.
What people lose sight of is that Google’s objective is to give its users to most relevant and useful results for their search query.
