My client would like to move a shopping cart site he runs from a UK Host to a US Host.
Other than the technical configuration alts after the move, is there anything else I should be considering to look into before making the switch?
Would I need to change my payment provider, merchant bank account etc?

One thing i would like to tell is avoid changing webhosts to us if you have no intention of targeting US customers. Because competition is very fierce in US market. So, seo-wise its not good.
But one very good advantage is that, hosting will be damn cheaper in us. So, you will be able to pass the savings to the customers.

But on the eCommerce front. Do they operate differently in the US, or could I maintain my same merchant and payment provider accounts that I have here in the UK?
Sorry…no idea about merchant accnts and payment providers. I never had to face such a situtaion.
I think that should depend on your new web host. I mean, in some webhost there are such plans that will help you to convert your merchant account.
